Nava Herzog is a woman who has dedicated much of her life to the welfare and continuation of Congregation Beth Hillel/Walden Jewish Community Center.
She has shared her love of Judaism, radiating joy and light during the song and prayer of services. Her leadership has provided stability and strength over the years.
Nava has been a member of Congregation Beth Hillel/Walden Jewish Community Center since 1987 when she and her husband moved to Orange County from Israel. She was born in Israel, emigrated to the United States with her parents and brother, and later returned to Israel to complete her studies and serve in the Israeli Air Force. She taught English in the prestigious HaReali Hebrew High School in Haifa for several years before returning to the United States.
Nava recalls finding Congregation Beth Hillel almost immediately upon moving to Orange County with her husband and two daughters, receiving a warm welcome from the membership. In 1994 Nava was asked to create a Hebrew School. She began with four students which quickly became a thriving school of 35.
She learned how to chant Torah and Haftarah and how to lead services for the congregation. Following High Holiday services in the year 2005, Nava was offered the position of Religious Leader while continuing to serve as Torah School principal/teacher, curriculum developer and Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutor for children and adults.
