Jewish Virtual Film Club – February 10, 2024
Please join our discussion on Zoom, Saturday Evening, February 10 at 7:00 PM!
We continue to discuss powerful movies that explore Jewish identity and the challenges of acceptance. We look at films about friends, co-workers, family, life partners and interfaith relationships. Films portray very different images (and stereotypes) of gentiles, assimilation, and the importance of Jewish identity.
“Golda” (2023) is a dramatic and timely look at the existential threat faced by Israel during the 1973 Yom Kippur War. The formidable Helen Mirren (“Woman in Gold, The Hundred-Foot Journey”) is aptly cast as Golda Meir, the “Iron Lady of Israel”, and the only woman to hold the position of Israeli Prime Minister.
IMPORTANT: Watch this film on SHOWTIME, Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, Fubo, or rent on your own before our meeting.

Faced with the threat of Israel’s annihilation, Golda Meir (Helen Mirren), must navigate a skeptical cabinet, army chiefs who dismissed her as an old lady with no battle experience, and a complex relationship with US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger (Liev Schreiber). Her leadership, tenacity and compassion would ultimately decide the fate of her nation and leave her with a controversial legacy.
