Torah School

Our programs are second to none.

The goal of the Torah school of Congregation Beth Hillel/ Walden Jewish Community Center is to instill a sense of belonging and pride in being a part of the Jewish community, in our temple and the world, to embrace Jewish values and contribute to the community. Classes are in person or on Zoom, Sunday mornings from 9 am to noon with specific times offered before or after class for building Hebrew reading skills.

In the Torah school our students learn about Jewish holidays, Torah and mitzvot as well as Hebrew reading skills. Students practice prayers and blessings in Hebrew to be ready to attend and fully participate in Shabbat and holiday services. The curriculum also includes study of Torah and Haftarah portions and general Judaic subjects.

Preparation for Bar and Bat Mitzvah is an important part of the Torah school. Students learn about their specific Torah and Haftarah portions, becoming proficient in chanting the portions as well. Our unique audio visual lessons help the children learn to lead Friday evening Kabbalat Shabbat services as well as Shabbat Shacharit (morning) services giving them a special link to the congregation.

It’s never too late!

If a Bat or Bar Mitzvah is something you’ve always wanted but did not have, our Religious Leader, Nava Herzog, will take you on this meaningful journey.  You will learn to read Hebrew prayers, chant your Torah portion and lead a service before your family and  the community.
